The quake struck at 10:16 a.m. (0116 GMT) with an epicentre 88
kilometres south-east of the coastal town of Manokwari, at a depth of 10
kilometres, the Meteorology, Geophysics and Climatology Agency said.
The United States Geological Survey revised the magnitude to 6.6
from 6.9.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there was no threat of a
widespread, destructive tsunami.
“However, earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local
tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred
kilometres of the earthquake epicentre,”
